DJ Bobby Black - Crack Addiction: Young Jeezy & Andre 3000
This is an ill combo of MCs; Jeezy and Andre 3000. I’m just glad he didn’t call it “best of both worlds”…that shit is played out like acid wash jeans and white girls with flat asses. You do get the best of the trap and the best bars in the south all in one mixtape tho. Not only is Bobby Black one of the most consistent mixtape DJs out there he will let you know it just by dropping that “new”…no need to talk about it and that’s how it should be.
We’re not going highlight crazy on the tracks but know this, Bobby Black is cutting up tracks on the transitions and is def keeping the “mix” in mixtape. If you don’t know by now Andre 3000 owned “Royal Flush”. And I quote: “is easier to run the streets than walk in the sand”…jewels people. Since this is a mixtape you gots to have freestyles. If you don’t have freestyles you are a compilation jockey…kill yourself. “All Eyes On Me” is that focused Jeezy, that shit to make you nod your head and wanna slap a bitch ass for saying some dumb shit. Truth be told Andre and Jeezy sound good as hell on a track. The Bobby Black remix of “Straight Drop” is the anthem. My favorite joint on here tho is “What A Job”. I can listen to Devin The Dude all day and how many times you hear MCs actual give praise to their craft like that…some lucky mutha fuckas too; pay homage if you got the talent. Bobby Black always come thru with some “live” clips too, “Bombs Over Baghdah” had that raw energy too. “I’m a Do Me” with Jeezy on that shit was classic mixtape material. That track is just infectious, no other way around it.
I fuck with Bobby Black mixtapes for the simple fact the shit is what raw mixtapes used to be. A DJ talking shit, with a good ear for music, showing some skill and giving you all that consistently. Not only that his cover work is proper and he stays with some promo too so as an artist you def want to be on his CDs. It’s safe to say the Crack Addiction mixtape series will not be stopped anytime soon.

DJ Rondevu - The Carter Chronicles III
Rondevu is a talented dude. If you’ve been a fan of his throughout the years, you’d have to ask yourself, “why the fuck would he do a Wayne mixtape?” I’m thorough, so I asked him and the answer is simple; the paper. The first two installments I couldn’t even get through. Not that the mixtapes were horrible, I just couldn’t dig hearing my man Ronde doing the same shit that other cats were doing. Not to say I didn’t respect the move, but I’m a fan of creativity and getting bread and these days the mixtape industry is strictly getting bread. Why else would hardcore East coast niggas be dropping “Lil Wayne vs. ______”? After all the bullshit that’s been surrounding Wayne this past couple of weeks and the album hitting the streets next week, I didn’t expect to see anyone dropping a new Wayne mixtape anytime soon. So when dude hit me and told me “III” was almost ready, I’m not even gone front, the retailer in me was excited, but as a fan, I was thinking, “more bullshit”.
Almost all of these Wayne joints are glorified “best of’s”, with no spin on them whatsoever. I expected to hear the same from “III”, but I saw that dollar sign in the tracklist and knew there were at least some signature Rondevu remixes. “Click, Click” features Rick Ross and T Pain. This wasn’t the craziest remix I’ve heard Ronde do, but it was definitely better than most of the shit I’ve heard on the majority of Wayne releases. Its too easy for niggas to just drop one of the 77 freestyles dude released last year with a few leaks and call it a mixtape. By far, the most exciting track on “The Carter Chronicles III” was “Definition of A Hustler”. The sample of Jay Z (more than a hustler, I’m the definition of it), and the original production left me wishing that Rondevu would have spent the time to create a Wayne mixtape in the image that he’s laced so many of his infamous blend joints with. Not just for true mixtape fans, but for other DJ’s, because there are too many hustlers, money getters, and overall culture jockers, that the real Dj’s don’t even bother anymore. There isn’t much else to talk about, but my anticipation for the actual album release. After June 10th, these so called Dj’s are going to have to rely on someone or something else to cake up. For what it was, “III” was decent, but only if you’re a Lil Wayne fan anticipating everything he does.

Geolani Grandz – Zillion dollar Bo$$
Welcome to bias review 101 you bitches. I’m gonna nip that shit in the bud right now. Cats will scream foul cause Geolani had ads on Rapmullet and music on Rapmullet so he automatically gets a “good” review. He could send me ten naked porn star bitches each with 10 grand strapped to their asses and all carrying pizza and snacks and I’d still give him an impartial review of his music. It’s not that serious but if you got a problem let me know, I’ll send you case of tissues, and tampons…bunch of crying ass vaginas.
Where DJ Lust been at? It was good to hear him on that intro, he’s got a mixtape voice that will motivate even the most harden criminals….”GAME (echo echo) TIGHT (echo echo)”. Shout to Metro Beats too, get well man. He produced “Talk How I Wanna”. That’s the statement of the mixtape right there. In addition, anytime Geolani and Metro Beats get together you know 9 times out of 10 the track is gonna pop off. Case in point: “Bx to the Block” with S-One. I’m diggin’ how they traded bars on the hook, cats don’t do it like that any more. You can’t deny the Stack Bundles and Dramills featured joint “Neva Stop Winning”. That joint is sharper than 10 machetes in a pile of broken glass. The anthem of anthems is “Let My Tape Rock”. If you don’t know that shit by now I can’t help you. Metro Beats produced filet mignon on the beat and damn near every mixtape DJ got some shine too. If you get a chance peep Montega’s verse on “Hustle”…that’s the future right there. “She Is Music Pt 2” got Naim Brixx on the hook and the shit is crazy. I don’t like the track as much as pt.1 but dude on the hook is nasty. “Zillion Dollar Boss” is all Geolani…that joint is the personification of Geolani’s whole style to me. Not to mention Dub Floyd murderd the hook. Geo held his own on along side Skyzoo and Sic Osyrus on the remix for “I Still Love Her” too.
I do not rate the MC in a mixtape review; I rate the mixtape…the project itself. Lyrically, and I don’t think Geolani would disagree; he’s not the best in his team. His strengths as an MC are his ear for beats, the ability to flow perfectly on said beats and get everyone to come together. He has the vision and the grind to make shit happen…bottom line. As a stand-alone MC in the game I would give him 2 ½ - 3 tapes, he has his moments and gets in some jewels consistently. This project tho is a completely different thing. It has everything; there’s nothing left he can do…all bases were covered. From the featured MCs, to the tight production to the cover work, to the running interview throughout, to the overall concept and flow of the mixtape. Even if you don’t like him as an MC you have to admire the fact he thoroughly produced a street certified mixtape in all aspects of what you want an “artist” mixtape to be. Moreover, you can’t take that away from him.
